FIDO, the first sibling of Bongo Java (Nashville's oldest coffeehouse), is named after the dog who discovered coffee. Most give credit to the Ethiopian goat herder Kaldi for discovering coffee more than 1,000 years ago. Legend has it that his flock started dancing after eating the mysterious cherries that contained seeds, which we now call coffee beans.
Fido opened in 1996 and is the second Bongo Production that now includes: Bongo Java, Fido, Grins Vegetarian Café, Bongo East, Game Point, Bongo Omni, Bongo Java Airport (two locations) and Bongo Java Roasting Co.
